Collaborative zine on idioms

 I joined in with a collaborative zine that I saw an open call for on Instagram. The zine is about idioms and I picked spill the beans. I drew lots of cute little baked beans falling out of the can and wrote "go on" to make it sound kind of cheeky that secrets are being told. 

The zine is in black and white but I originally did it in colour as I prefer to work in colour and its nice to have the 2 version.

The princess and the pea

The princess and the pea has always been one of my favourite fairy tales and I wanted to practice creating book covers so I made this illustration. I used purple for the main colour as purple is a regal colour. The tall pile of mattresses is very colourful to help show how tall the pile is. She is looking a little worried and a little tired as she is very high up and unable to sleep.

Little penguin

Little illustration of a cute little penguin in a hat. The penguin has adventured into the aussie outback so is sporting a lovely cork hat to keep the sun off him. I love seeing different animals in hats as I think its just so cute. Maybe I should make a whole series of animals and hats. 

 

Nativity! Fanart

This is a piece of fan art I did to celebrate my love for the Christmas film nativity. Painted in my moleskin watercolour sketchbook with watercolours,  fine liner, metallic ink and coloured pencils. I want to draw a large selection of the characters dressed up in their costumes. I had a lot of fun creating this piece as i got to watch the film and listen to the sound track a lot.

Christmas eve

Well its that time of year again, Christmas time! Its come round again quicker than ever. In this illustration, i drew a brother and sister up past their bed time to catch a glimpse at the man with the bag. Father Christmas has brought them all their lovely toys to enjoy. They have left out a mince pie, a snowball cocktail and a carrot which is what I always used to leave out too. 

I did this all monochrome so it would work in a middle grade 6-10 year old type of book. 

Sleep well all tonight and I hope santa visits you too. 

 

Santa paws is coming to town

Santa paws is who visits all the pets and animals around the world to deliver their presents.  This year i got my cat some licky lix that are turkey flavoured as she loves her daily licky lix even though she's meant to be on a diet but she's a little treat and she's done really well with her diet.

Festive cheese

A little cheese celebrating the holiday season. Cheese is a major part of a British  Christmas with the evening cheese and crackers. And then its cheese and crackers for lunch for the next week as well. And I love it. 

What is your favourite cheese? 

I like German smoked cheese, edam and cheddar the best 

 

Festive tea

 

Happy first of December and you know means Christmas is fast approaching. I always create so many Christmas illustrations and this year is no different and I've done so many. I love Christmas and I love tea so this design is a bit of me. It is inspired by a card I made for my boyfriend for his birthday a couple of years ago. That card said "lets par-tea" with a cute little tea bag. Stay tuned for many many more Christmas illustrations. 

Left handed comic

As a left handed person, I have always had people tell me that they wish they were also left handed. This is something I've always found strange as the world is designed for right handed people so why would anyone want to be a lefties? But I guess most people want to be a little different. I wanted to make a little comic to illustrate this almost too common interaction. I really enjoyed making this comic and want to make more soon... just need ideas for one....

 

There's a tiger in my bath tub

I saw this meme ( the second image ) on reddit and thought it was so dumb and funny. The silliness of it made me really what to draw it. So I did! Here is a character who somewhat resembles me just going to the bath room to brush her teeth, only to find a tiger having a long relaxing soak. The way the meme says "not again" adds so much to suggest it is a regular occurrence to find this tiger in her tub. I just found this meme for dumb and I hope my drawing of it comes off just as nonsensical. I hope to found more silly memes to draw like this in the future.

Queens of Cards

This is the complete queen of cards mini series with all the queens together. I've really enjoyed this series and improving my portrait skills. I would love to do portrait commissions in this style or any of my styles so if they is something you would be interested message me and we can talk about style, finish and price.

Queen of Diamonds

Last one of the mini series.

 As you have probably noticed all the queens have their eyes closed. This is because I didn't want the main focus to be the eyes which normally does become the main focus of a portrait since the eyes are the portal to the soul and all that jazz. 

Also the colour pallette isn't massive throughout the mini series with the main focus on the 2 main colours of playing cards of red and black. I used a dark green on the black suits as green complements red and black well. 

I choice a variety of different women to use as references to show diversity and practice drawing lots of different women and people with different skin tones and hair types and styles. It was fun drawing lots of different people.

Here is a quick little drawing of a cup of tea. As someone from Yorkshire, I basically only drink Yorkshire tea as it's the best tea around.
